Since 2008, public funding for the visual arts in the UK has declined significantly to meet austerity targets across national and local governments. This has led to the dramatic transformation of traditional funding models. Philanthropy and sponsorship is now actively sought, while organisations in the sector are introducing revenue-based business options in order to remain viable. 

Hosted by DACS Foundation and Goldsmiths, University of London, 'Art360: The Gift and its Legacy' will explore two emerging trends in this new funding environment. Artists and artists' estates are increasingly supporting the visual arts as champions and donors themselves, while galleries and collectors are beginning to gift artworks from their private collections to the nation. 

The conference is the first public event of Art360, exploring best practice around capturing, curating and disseminating knowledge about the crucial importance of safeguarding the cultural heritage of British artists. Chaired by Richard Noble, Head of the Department of Art, Goldsmiths, it will bring together museums, galleries, artists, funding bodies and donors to examine and provoke discussion around the importance and long-term impact of donations.
